girls be girls. boys be gross.
I asked my best mate the other day after a casual dine with a suitor, "so0o what do you think?" and she said "...he's you, you guys are the exact same." I reply "I know right?!" smiling... she looks back at me and meets my eyes "...no he's a dude, it's not okay that you act alike." kinda taken back... I thought about it, and she is right. my background in women's studies always insisted there is an eternal double standard that is unfair, and I have whole heartedly agreed. but thinking more about it, maybe it's a good thing? maybe that keeps the balance of the men as men and the women as feminine. yes I realize ALL the panties in a knot if I were to share this back in one of my women's studies classes, how wrong gendering is.. .yada yada. but for the sake of promiscuity, maybe equality wasn't the best policy. chuck klosterman writes "for the past twenty-five years, culture has been obsessed with making males and females more alike, and that's fine. Maybe it's even enlightened. But what I have noticed- at least among young people- is that this convergence has most likely just prompted females to adopt the worst qualities of men. It's like girls are trying to attain equality by becoming equally shallow and selfish." He goes on to note how this has been absorbed by our generation, "The consensus is that this double standard is wrong, so -therefore- we should all have sex with as many people as possible."

put a ring on it: or dance a ring around the pole?
the sexual cost of female success is a really interesting article about modern day women and their sexuality. what is at stake when it comes to women and success and a brief look at modern 'hook up' culture. what power do we really have? Can we use our sex appeal as power or is it just modern feminist bs to get ahead using sex? "I still think you have better odds of succeeding, especially if you're attractive, if you don't give in, if you make him work hard, get to know you, make commitments -- all that stuff that seems pretty basic. This is not about getting sex. Women can get sex whenever they want. Post it on Craigslist and you can have it within the hour. This is about getting commitments." perfectly put.
thank you gala.

hung

HBO’s show Hung needed a little bit of attention to promote the show. The series features a forty something father, with no money and decides to turn to prostitution to get the funds to win his kids back. An Auckland based marketing company, Colenso BBDO, was sought out by HBO to promote the show and to generate publicity. BBDO is currently one of New Zealand’s highest ranked ad agencies and was ranked top ad agency of the decade by Campaign Brief What they erected, for lack of a better word, is definitely creating publicity. Located on Victoria Street in central Auckland, an enormous crotch with the show’s title plastered on it rests. Despite one’s personal opinion of the show, it is impossible to deny the eye catching success of the billboard. Sex sells, and when the series’ title is ‘Hung’ might as well get right to the point. Is this overtly sexual add too much to be on a billboard? Or is it no different then any beer campaign with scandalous women in revealing clothes, or perfume advertisements alluding to sex and rape. Sex selling advertisements however are usually due to a an attractive person having little or nothing to do with the product being advertised. However, in this case, the subject matter is exactly what is being displayed, clear and concise. So is it fair to say that the advertising company is using sex to sell, because it really is just selling the product it self.Image: coolhunter.com
