stay at home children.

I am finding it hard to stay and even harder to go. weekending away and a full fridge is the real seller.

ghetto family.

I MISS THIS... it's different than a 'miss' you feel for someone you don't see often or an old boyfriend. there are books and love blogs to get you through break ups. you can skype for more realistic visits with loved ones who are far. but what I am talking about is missing your flat mate(s) or as my university commonly called it 'house mates'. the family you create in your home away from home for four years of your life. waking up every day together, going through heart breaks, psychotic exams and amazing parties. why is there no therapy for this break up? It was definitely my most fulfilling relationship. and it really blows how we took for granted all living mere kegs distances apart. enough with the cloning scientists... I need more focus on tele-transportation.
I miss... sitting on roofs. bonfires. stupid costumes. cheap beer. bad music. and you.

your status updates bore me, but I'll keep you around in case you are the next gates or zuckerberg.

post grad and the time to build and expand your personal and professional network has never been so detrimental. so why is it that all I want to do is purge my contacts? one of my friends insists that every contact is a potential successor in your future, and another has a strict two hundred cap on her facebook friends- so where do you draw the line? Should you add everyone and accept each request on every social media platform? Does a 'de-friending' mean a burnt bridge? of course social media guru sidney eve matrix has already covered this on cyberpop. sidney relates and explains... "For me, the mass unfriending phenomenon is a teachable moment, which is why I’ve designed a course at Queen’s University starting in January, for fourth year students who are just about to graduate, on building a strong digital platform and persona." I am a year behind on this fantastic course, but I'll be sure to keep up with the slides and share. In the mean time read the brilliant article, platforms constructed and dismantled for your friending frustrations.

tweets that slayed me on this subject...
People need to stop combining their tweets with facebook... its bad enough your   tweets suck. Now I gotta see them on my mini-feed. @ZAKLONGO

generation: all the single ladies.

Young twenty somethings are constantly be reminded to live life to the fullest. Gain all the experience in the world and for the love of all things good- do not settle down. While I believe it is important to make my decisions independently and approach all my goals with reckless abandon, is this 'I'm doing me' philosophy really what is best? The generations of women before us had less opportunities, but they do have beautiful loving families. By not having an open heart to build a relationship in our twenties, will that leave us settling? Pamela Newton of the Huffington Post writes...
We were also raised to believe (implicitly, if not explicitly) that we should put the precious energies of our 20s and 30s toward building our own careers and racking up life experiences.
The article describes how our generation's 'lust for life' is giving us an education, experiences and budding carreers, but are we completely ignoring companionship?

psycho youth.

I came across this photo and could not help but relate to it. No not because she is a fit blonde, haha, but the caption read psycho youth. this is exactly how I feel right now. trapped in my apartment, which is constantly a mess no matter how much it's cleaned. I am constantly in my underwear because it's too bloody hot for the pathetic air conditioner to work. Anyway, I know my roommates are feeling the same and for anyone else - you are not alone. we are at this extremely awkward transition in our life right now. finished university, but apparently unqualified for any decent job. some of us are moving out or crawling back home and there never seems to be enough money. just know psycho youth (yes we are still youth!) you are not alone. enjoy this time-- like the mother in almost famous says "take this time and do what you want with it". it's all happening.

school supplies.

it's august, which means next month is september. I love september, hot days and cool nights. fall fashion starting, digging out my favorite flannels and wools. this may be premature but this isn't a post about fall, do not fret. it got me thinking about another thing I look forward to that I can't do this year...
buy school supplies! for the first year since grade school I can't pace the aisles of office depot and pick out highlighters and pens and post its. can't write the date for the first time in fresh notebooks. such a feeling of fresh it created- a new school year. I wonder what this september will bring?

august thoughts.

dear class of 2010, good luck.

no really. because as if job hunting was not stressful enough. huffington post released an article today reinforcing how screwed we are. 'job market for 2010 worst in recent memory". according to a new study, the unemployment rates are the lowest since 1983. unemployment rates for college graduates under 25 is nearly twice as high compared to before the recession- and that is not even counting those who settle for low paying 'anything they can get' jobs.

on to the next one.

I hate moving! While there is something therapeutic about purging and setting up a new abode, twelve times later (actually twelve) -pack up crap- move crap- clean old room- get new place- pack up their crap- move out their crap- clean new room- unpack. I AM OVER IT.
Post grad in the annex starts now.
If only I had a job...
