candy is not evil.
happy halloween. turning out the lights and pretending you are not home? ... I hope your house gets egged. New York Times put out a brilliant article about candy being misunderstood. candy is not evil or manipulative... it's never pretended to be healthy it is pure pleasure no tricks just treats.
get high on love.
According to a new study at Syracuse University - When a person falls in love, twelve areas of the brain work in tandem to release the same euphoric feeling as using cocaine.

do you find your significant other taking on your little isms, your wordings and speech? Apparently couples mimick each other's language when they are most happy. According to a study at the University of Texas, "because style matching is automatic," says Ireland, a psychology graduate student, "it serves as an unobtrusive window into people's close relationships with others."

insert 'sexy costume' here.
mean girl's explained that "in girl world, halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it." While this may be true for teeny boppers, I don't see 0ctober 31st as an excuse for anything but fake blood, if I can look hot and be covered in blood- great success. In halloween and the sexualization of girls, the 'sexy' lumberjack costumes are explained as being defended as a 'perverse appropriation of girl power'. do what makes you happy, a cute nurse is much more visually appealing than a corpse bride, but what fun is that?

summer nostalgia.
I'll just lie here
keep strumming your guitar
I'ma smile while you make up lyrics.
summer breeze pushes all my worries away.
only concern is where I'll get my popsicle.

Do you know what hurts most about a broken heart? Not being able to remember how you felt before... try and keep that feeling, because... if it goes... you'll never get it back.
Oh wow, I was really... I didn't eat for three days so I could be lovely.
I'll love you forever, Sid..
You will?
Yes. That's the problem.

effy.
Freddie: We’d be good together. Don’t you think?
No.
Freddie: Why?
Because I’ll break your heart.
Freddie: Maybe I’ll break yours.
Nobody breaks my heart and anyway, why would I want that?
I'm officially off the rail.
Let's get totally, totally fcked.
Everybody dances to their own boom boom
Love, love, love. What is it good for? Absolutely nothing.
Why bother?
Tony: With what?
Caring about people.
Tony: You don't fool me, Effy Stonem.

generation: all the single ladies.
Young twenty somethings are constantly be reminded to live life to the fullest. Gain all the experience in the world and for the love of all things good- do not settle down. While I believe it is important to make my decisions independently and approach all my goals with reckless abandon, is this 'I'm doing me' philosophy really what is best? The generations of women before us had less opportunities, but they do have beautiful loving families. By not having an open heart to build a relationship in our twenties, will that leave us settling? Pamela Newton of the Huffington Post writes...
We were also raised to believe (implicitly, if not explicitly) that we should put the precious energies of our 20s and 30s toward building our own careers and racking up life experiences.
The article describes how our generation's 'lust for life' is giving us an education, experiences and budding carreers, but are we completely ignoring companionship?

wait for nothing.
But by the time we met
By the time we met the times had already changed
So I never wrote a letter
I never took my true heart I never wrote it down
So when the lights cut out
I was left standing in the wilderness downtown
Now our lives are changing fast
Now our lives are changing fast
Hope that something pure can last

smart phones make us look dumb.
Microsoft has launched a clever campaign commenting on our dependence on staying connected. the Windows Phone 7 stresses 'at a glance information' too ensure we don't loose touch with reality. while the idea is brilliant, and they make a valid point, I do not see them succeeding in competition against the smartphone giants in the market such as, iPhone and Blackberry.

hummingbird.
fly.
get higher.
wings rapid
like a heart beat.
they appear still.
ever returning
it's not the sugar water.
careful and delicate,
holding on to what's not there.
don't stay to long little one,
they might get a picture.

friend request: your mom.
It is no secret the enormous increase of moms on facebook. every status update, every farmville invite and every wall post (that should really be a personal message), we shudder. Cyberpop offered detailed statistics of millenial moms including, women with children at home are 60% more likely than average adults to be facebook or twitter users. is being online the new happy housewife valium? according to grow it's much more. A World Without Flaws - The Social Media Stepford Wives gives another perspective, one of community versus escapism. Stay at home mothers are able to connect and cope and help other mothers 'online' giving a higher sense of purpose and more social interaction besides kids.
*side note: I have been nannying the past couple weeks and can say from experience my iphone meaning twitter/blog/facebook have been my life lines to humanity.

lil weezy solo.
a recent update reveals that lil wayne, born dwayne carter, has been moved to solitary confinement punishment. the twenty eight year old rapper is behind bars for criminal possession of a weapon. his new punishment also includes no tv and one call per week, a drastic change from once a day. why such harsh repercussions? because little weezy was listening to beats- a charger and headphones were found in a potato chips bag in the garbage can in his cell. the actual player was discovered later in another inmates cell. it is considered a contraband to the jail to listen to music other than the radio and players provided. luckily this stunt will not hinder weezy's eight month sentence expected on good behavior. free weezy.

why your roomates hate you.
according to huffington post, these are the top seven reasons why your roomates hate you. my university roommates are my best friends but we are definately all guilty of one of these... very funny.
you are prettier than they are
you are going to make more money than them
you are depressing
you root for a stupid sports team
you never shut up about your hometown
you keep a diary
you "claim" to have a special diet

devil's music.
maybe there was some truth to the statement...
the video is kind of slow paced but it makes an interesting comment on artists in the music industry and their personal reference to selling their souls to the devil in return for their success.

blog on.
blogging is a hard game. only just now after a year of dedication am I finally getting recognized for it and it feels amazing. people commenting that they like it is always amazing, and now getting actually paid to do contract blogging- it could not be more fitting. so for any writers out there, I am still a rookie at this game but I have learned a few things that make it better. one, keep posting- the longer you go without posting, the less you think what you have to say is important. secondly, read lots. read the paper, read the metro, read blogs, read novels, read classifieds - just keep reading and you'll never lack inspiration. lastly, stay positive. it's hard explaining what you do and why you do it. blogging is such an ugly word and with pioneer sites like live journal people have a really nerdy emo take on what it means to blog. here is an excellent article called don't hold your breath waiting for a social media parade in your honor. very clever and one can relate as a blogger.
stay inspired whatever you do.
